Senior researcher and senior lecturer in the field of traffic engineering
Since 2006 Martijn Kiers has worked as a senior lecturer and senior researcher in the field of mobility and spatial planning and coordinates the mobility department at the Institute for Energy, Transport and Environmental Management at FH JOANNEUM in Kapfenberg. His teaching and research focuses on sustainable urban mobility, urban planning, optimization of traffic flow, simulations, real-time data analysis, methods for modal shift, sustainable mobility promotion (cycling and walking) and barrier-free mobility.
Additional lecturers are at the University of Graz and in the “Municipal Cycling Officers” course run by the Climate Alliance. As part of his research work, he has been honored with several national and international awards, including the renowned VCÖ Mobility Prize 2021.
The lecture deals with the development and implementation of networked transport systems. Innovative technologies and concepts that enable efficient, sustainable and intelligent mobility in urban areas are presented, as well as the advantages of these systems for traffic safety, environmental protection and quality of life.
The panel discussion will address the perspectives and challenges of climate-conscious mobility. The experts will discuss strategies for reducing CO2 emissions in transport, the integration of sustainable transport solutions and the practical challenges in implementing environmentally friendly mobility concepts.
